The Team

Michael Ikpoki

A lawyer by training, with 22 years regulatory, commercial, operational experience in emerging market telecoms and proven leadership experience in managing and growing telecom businesses in the largest economies in Africa. Experience includes six (6) years public sector experience in National Telecoms Regulatory Authority and fourteen (14) years experience in the MTN Group. In MTN Nigeria, he served as Regulatory Advisor, General Manager, Regulatory Affairs and later Sales & Distribution. From 2007 to 2011, he was Sales & Distribution Executive in MTN Nigeria. He was appointed CEO of MTN Ghana in April 2011 and thereafter CEO of MTN Nigeria in July 2013. MTN Nigeria was the largest operating company in the MTN Group. He left MTN Group in December 2015 to pursue other interests.

Presently, CEO of Africa Context Advisory Partners Limited. Africa Context Advisory Partners Limited is an Africa-focused business advisory firm which provides business advisory services in telecoms/ICT, Market entry and the Policy/Regulatory solutions to companies, leaders, prospective Investors and Governments across Africa. Michael also speaks to select audiences on telecoms, leadership and business growth in Africa.

Zunaid Bulbulia

Zunaid Bulbulia has more than 23 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry and was one of the founding members of the MTN team. During his 22 years with MTN South Africa he served as Financial Manager, General Manager: Service Providers, Subscriber Operations and Service Operations. He was appointed Chief Financial Officer of MTN South Africa in 2005 and Chief Executive Officer in May 2013. At the time of his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of MTN South Africa, he was also appointed Group Chief Operations Executive of MTN Group Limited. As CEO of MTN South Africa, he was tasked with bolstering MTN’s competitive position in the South African market for telecommunications products and services. He left MTN Group in December 2015 to pursue various business opportunities.

Zunaid became a non-executive director and advisor of the Huge Group in January 2016, a newly listed telecommunications company that specializes in the Small Medium Enterprises (SME) sector. Zunaid is also an advisory Board member to the Kirusa Group of companies, a mobile messaging and applications company headquartered in New Jersey, USA. In addition, Zunaid is adjunct Professor at the world renowned Wits Business School, where he lectures to the MBA students. Zunaid continues to consult to a variety of customers in the telecommunications industry in Africa and the rest of the world.

Femi Banigbe

Femi Banigbe is a technology business leader with over 17 years industry experience, a principal technology consultant with Africa Context Advisory Partners Limited and a co-founder of Silver Rock Technology Services Ghana. Prior to co-founding Silver Rock Technology Services, he was the immediate past Chief Operations Officer of Millicom Ghana Limited the Operator of the TIGO Network in Ghana where he was responsible for driving the overall operations strategy of the business in Ghana. He had also functioned as the Acting CEO for Millicom Ghana as well as the Chief Technical Officer for Millicom Ghana. .

Prior to joining Millicom Ghana, he was the Chief Technical Officer for Millicom International Cellular Tanzania where he help drive the technology strategy of the business in the East African country. Earlier in his career, Femi had worked with Airtel Nigeria as the Director of Operations. He also worked with Ericsson, the world’s leading Telecommunication equipment and service provider for a couple years in several capacities; the last being the Network Support Group Manager for Access and Transport Networks

He has a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria. He is product of Ericsson Management Development Program as well as a product of the Advance Management Program of London Business School. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Manchester Business School, United Kingdom
